About me

I’m Michelle, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 26, out of the blue, just after moving to Australia. I've been living with it for 19 years and I've been writing about it here since 2018.

Living with Type 1 diabetes has its ups and downs. There are no breaks from it and more effort doesn’t necessarily lead to better results. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how to stay focused and motivated for the long term and how to overcome those times when I feel like I can’t be bothered and it feels like a drag. The things that have massively helped me are peer support through the diabetes online community, embracing diabetes technology to help me and realising that my mindset has a big impact on how I approach my diabetes.  I’m not a doctor though so please don’t treat anything I say as medical advice! These are my personal views and experiences.

Outside the blog, I co-authored the EASD European Clinical Guidelines on Diabetes Distress, I'm an Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Exeter and I've been involved in various diabetes research projects as an expert by experience. I work in venture capital investment, commercial strategy and M&A with a focus on health innovation. If you want to know more about that side of things, visit michelle-law.co.uk

I live in Devon with my husband, two teenagers and our dog.
